Think like a defender, in order to beat the defense! 11 players can't cover the entire field. In this 7 part series we look at the most common (and some uncommon) coverage looks you'll encounter, while exposing defensive tells, strategies, and areas of weakness inherent in each coverage scheme.

COVER 1

Man coverage underneath with 1 Safety over the top. We discuss the QB's key reads, as well as player "tells" as to the nature of the coverage. We also discuss route concepts that put the most pressure on Cover 1 defenses, illustrated with coaching insights and game footage.

COVER 2

This coverage gets its name from the 2 Safeties over the top, splitting the deep coverage into two zones. This video explores the variations of Cover 2 with underneath zone coverage, and how the offense can exploit the gaps in coverage at various points on the field.

COVER 2 MAN

In cover 2 man, we are looking at man coverage underneath, bolstered by two Safeties over the top, splitting the field in half. We look at situations in which you're most likely to see this defense used, which players will your key reads, and ways to beat this look.

COVER 3

This defense features 3 over the top defenders covering an underneath zone scheme. We discuss each defender's area of responsibility, and where it is best to attack this look. Film study explores how to read and beat this coverage.

COVER 4

This 4-deep zone is designed to take away some things from the offense, but it opens up specific parts of the field. We look at each defender's area of responsibility, and show you route concepts and throws to beat the defense.

COVER 0

Primarily a pressure defense, Cover 0 looks provide no help over the top. We will show you how to recognize this look, what it means for the QB, and how to keep the chains moving against this look.

OTHER COVERAGES

In our final video of this series, we look at a number of interesting, if less common, coverage schemes. We illustrate how to read and diagnose the coverage, as well as the weak points of each scheme.
